New York City Here we Come!

Apr 14, 2016

After months of preparing to participate in the Global Classrooms International Model United Nations Conference in New York, our delegates were ready to deliberate over pertinent issues such as ‘The Rights of Indigenous People, Maternal Health and Combating Child Labour’. On March 27, 2016 Dr. Fatma, Madam Sandeepa Chavan and parents were at the Kotoka International Airport to see the MUN delegation off. They were enthusiastic about their trip and the opportunity to be part of this year’s conference with 1,750 delegates from across the globe.

On March 29, 2016 the MUN team with LifeLink Friendship Schools visited Booker T Washington School to interact with the students and have a simulation of the General Assembly. Delegates had the opportunity to join the Booker T Washington students for some of their lessons. Yasmin Alfa and Anouska Chavan join the English lesson.

The closing ceremony of the Global Classrooms International Model United Nations Conference was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Our delegates were inspired by the speeches from Mr. Ahmad Alhendawi, H.E Deputy Mrs. Bahia Hariri and a message on behalf of Ban Ki-moon.

You cannot visit New York without going to Times Square and that is exactly what the delegates did, but it was just too cold to have fun. With all the bright lights around, it is hard to believe that it’s past 9:00 p.m. Without a doubt, New York is the city that never sleeps.

Dr. Fatma Odaymat and Madam Sandeepa Chavan met the MUN team at Kotoka International Airport and welcomed them back from the Global Classrooms International Model United Nations Conference held in New York. After spending eight fantastic days in the freezing weather in New York, it felt good to be back in the tropics.
