How We Express Ourselves-What Is Art?

The year 6 unit on How we Express Ourselves comprised of videos depicting various art work – songs, dance, paintings, plays, etc. from all parts of the world. E.g. documentary of Vincent van gulf. A visit to an art gallery.

Learners visited the school of performing arts of the University of Ghana to watch performances from various cultures e.g. Ghanaian, Egyptians, Indians, Arabs, Nigerians, etc. The students also invited renowned poets, musicians, choreographers to present some of their work. After the tuning in stage, the year 6 students explored the lines of inquiry through an interview with a professional artist who spent quality time explaining the context of his artwork and the social values they portray.

The students asked questions, trying to learn what he uses to make the artwork, and what attitudes help him as an artist to produce such excellent work.

At the end of the day, the students were simply inspired to be creative as they prepare for their summative assessment.
