Asesewa, A Cross-Cultural Collaboration

Oct 10, 2015

The ARIS Humanities Department, along with Global Perspectives, Economics & Enterprise took a field trip to develop their Coursework Project: The Right to Quality Education. The project partners were staff and students from the Roman Catholic School, Asesewa, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The coursework topics included, Education For All, Poverty and Inequality, and Water, Food and Agriculture.

During the cross-cultural collaboration, ARIS students divided themselves into groups. Group A led their own guided reading sessions. This group of students read and discussed books with small groups of Roman Catholic students. The ARIS students collected and donated over 400 books for the Roman Catholic Primary School.

Group B students led the construction crew, constructing classroom shelves for the school.

Group C students were tasked with interviewing the Roman Catholic School students to form the basis of writing a proposal to a Non- Governmental Organization.

After a long day, the staff and students said goodbye and loaded onto the bus, they were exhilarated with their ability to achieve such an impacting, life changing collaboration.
