Pi Day 2016

On March 14th 2016, ARIS celebrated Pi day. The event was organised by Year 12 students, and supported by the Math Department. The celebrations started with a few videos about pi and a competition for reciting decimals of pi.

Aryan Dhar took the prize with 27 decimal places, though his senior in year 12, Mouayad Toutoungi decided to surpass his record with 58 decimals. Bashhar Byrouthy not only won the best poem recital, but also the most circular head, where circumferences and diameters of the students heads were measured and the ratio was to be as close to pi (3.14) as possible.

The students who had raised money for this special day finally got what they were waiting for, they filled paper plates with whipped cream and subsequently shoved them into the faces of the teachers they were assigned to the week before.

Rama with the highest money raised pi'ed Mr Brew happily, not expecting the retaliation. However, our teachers were also looking forward to that sweet moment of revenge, and pi'ed the students in return.

The final activity of the day was a math riddle treasure hunt and a feast of everything circular. The sun set behind a school that was full of happy pi children."
