Just A Minute, Let Us Show & Tell

It was Show and Tell and JAM (Just A Minute) Day at ARIS today—At ARIS we explore different ways for student to express themselves, who they are and what they appreciate. With ‘Show and Tell’ our Year 1-3 brought items that they liked, and were given a few minutes to express why those items were important to them. “I like this magnifying glass because it converts small things into big things” said one student, “I really like this Robot arm, that I made myself, because I like Robotics.” Said another.

‘Just A Minute’ is when year 4-5 students pick an impromptu topic and speak on it – It assesses the students’ ability to use the topic, their experience, and their presence of mind to show their knowledge and understanding about different topics. “Homework is important because it helps the teacher examine if you were listening in class”, “There are two types of books, fiction books and non-fiction books. Non-fiction books make you understand things better and give you more theoretical knowledge whereas fiction books open your imagination and help you be more creative,” said another.

When asked about the objective of this activity, Mrs Sandeepa, PYP Coordinator said, “These activities encourage the students to be more confident, refine their presentation skills and to speak up about their opinions and perspectives”.
