PYP Celebrates Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival in China, is China's most important traditional festival. It is also the most important celebration for Chinese families.



The Chinese student population is growing in ARIS, this Chinese New Year celebration was an opportunity to take a glimpse in to their intriguing culture. The Chinese students and parents did an amazing job with this extravagant event. The colorful look and delightful smell of China was at our finger tips. The MC’s of the event, Tiger and Ella were confident as they led the audience through the show.


Tiger played Let it Go, on his violin, it didn’t take long for the students to join him as the chorus! Watch here


Dora was a beautiful sight in her red costume with gold coins shining and shimmering, as she danced to a traditional Chinese song. She was confident and energetic, the audience rewarded her for a beautiful performance!

Tiger’s mom, entertained us with her group of friends that created a Chamber Orchestra, they played an amazing song. Watch here.


Ella performed a traditional Chinese dance



Secondary girls sang a Chinese song and the audience members were impressed.


The celebration did not end there, the grand finally was a “Happy New Year” song to the tune of “Clementine”. The parents and students join together on the stage, made a powerful impact on the audience, the kids were amazed at the new cultural experience. The group sang and exploded confetti onto the crowd.  Watch Here

The Chinese parents handed out traditional Chinese New Year Red Envelopes with Chinese Money inside! I'm sure it wont be long before these global citizen are in China spending their gift money! 

A dad show cased his Dizi talent, producing relaxing and soothing music. Now that’s a PYP dad! 







The delicious Chinese New Year foods were shared with the whole school. 


As the Year of the Monkey comes to an end, Chinese people around the world prepare to welcome the Year of the Rooster. This was the first PYP Chinese New Year’s celebration in ARIS. Last year, not many kids would be able to tell you the difference between the Year of the Monkey or the Year of the Rooster. Now thanks to the PYP Celebrations, the Chinese New Year event will be an experience not soon to be forgotten.
