HOT DEBATE!

The topic that sparked a hot debate in the Year 10 Global Perspectives class this morning was, ‘‘Being self-employed is better than working for others”. Those for the motion were Salam Majzoub, Alshyma Elamin, and Sacha Akkary, and students against the motion were Rama El Hassan and Rashida Hassan.

Debaters raised strong and convincing arguments that covered issues including instability of economies, total commitment from entrepreneurs that could have a toll on their personal relationships with their families, flexibility of working on your own, and the high interest rates that are charged on loans for start-ups.

After a long debate, those against the motion won, convincing the house with real life scenarios and statistical evidence. On a whole, it was great learning experience, and I must say that our students are certainly ready to walk in the shoes of today’s leaders!
