Peace & Peace Makers Year 6 and the EU

Oct 26, 2017

The Year 6 students are Inquiring about Peace and Peace makers. The class invited Inge Zerbo, PA to the Head of Delegation - Ambassador W. Hanna, Delegation of the European Union to Ghana to come and speak about European Union and Peace. It was a very to the point topic because European Union was founded on the ashes of World War II by Visionaries who saw the Union as the only solution to bring Peace.

The Visionaries came from 7 different European Countries, who were enemies during World War II: Germany and Italy was fighting during the war against France, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg (the 6 Founding countries of the European Union)

There was also Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister of Great Britain who is considered as a Founding Father of the European Union (although Great Britain only joined the Union in 1973)

Please find more details about 60 years of Rome Treaty in the video I shared with the children: Video
I must say the children were really to the point, one of them even knew why the founding fathers started with a Union for Steal and Coal.

In 2012 the European Union received the Nobel Prize for Peace:

But European Union is not only about Peace in Europe – EU is constantly supporting Peace efforts in the World; a very good example is the support EU gave to the PEACE March of Israeli & Palestinian Women in October 2017
