Science Fair 2018

Apr 6, 2018

Science Fair is coming up! We can’t wait. The Science department is prepping up for the annual Science Fair at ARIS on the 25th of April! The theme for this year is ‘Better Design for Sustainability’.

A huge part of scientific, developmental and technological discourse of today’s day and age is to look at Sustainability. This is with reference to the use of resources, and whether this progress will not only cater for our generation but also for the generations to come!

Our interaction with our environment does not have any limits. Our health and well-being depends entirely on our environment, from the air we breathe to the water we drink to the food we eat, which we all hope is clean, and uncontaminated. With a rapidly growing world, we speak of it as development, but is it momentary, or are we exhausting our natural resources to the point where there isn’t anything left for not only our children or grandchildren but also generations to come after them. Non-renewable resources will be depleted in time, just like us.

We generate waste, which many times does not get recycled properly, because of our methods of disposal. This ultimately harms us, as it harms the environment. So, we urge our students and our community, hoping for a higher and higher reach, to raise awareness and take action to protect the environment. After all, it is all of our responsibility. The global community has also taken a stance as on 25th September 2015, countries adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals to protect the planet.

With regards to a pressing topic such as this; at ARIS, this Science Fair, students will be required to undertake a project that solves an environmental problem locally, as they efficiently use resources surrounding them. This will be done either through individual work or teamwork.

Stay tuned for more!
