Art of the Week; Riwa Mattouk

Feb 8, 2018

It all gets a little too much sometimes. School, Friends, Work, you name it. The artwork we picked out this week shows a Girl sitting with her head bowed down as the colors of the rainbow fall around her like Rain. Aside from the tidbits and details of this specific artwork, the emotion of the art resonates to all of us.

Riwa Mattouk of Year 10, the artist of this work when asked about it said that it was a Wall Magazine project that she completed in an hour. Riwa said that instead of using a paint brush, she poured the colors onto the paper and used a straw to blow into it and move the paint around, giving that effect to the different colors. Talk about creativity!

When I asked her what she meant to say through her artwork, she said that the colors represent the colors and the light around us. There are always dark times in all of our lives, and you may feel like you want to disappear, but there are more colors and light too that melt the darkness away. Good times come and trump the bad times.

With this message right around the corner in our own hallway, lets keep going!
