PYP Students get a Surprise for Chinese New Year

Feb 8, 2018

ARIS is a place where we embrace the multiculturalism of our community. With a growing Chinese student population at ARIS and the recent introduction of Mandarin to our Languages being taught at ARIS, this year, we celebrated the 2018 Chinese New Year in the way we know best - A great, culturally rich function and good food.

Chinese New Year in China is also known as the ‘Spring Festival’ in China. On this day, we got to take a little glimpse into the colorful and rich Chinese culture through their beautiful Music, Dance, and Food, conducted by the Chinese students and their parents.

Our students took part in various parts of the function. Wafa El Wolley from Year 9 was the English MC at the program. Ziyi Jiao from Year 4 graced us with a beautiful fluid butterfly-like performance. Our Year 6 A students also stood together to sing a Mandarin song, truly representing the essence of diversity in our ARIS community.

It was all accompanied by a bonus performance, that was an amusing dance skit, by Mr. Solomon and Madam Sandra. To wrap it all up, the Chinese Director of the Confucious Institute, Dr. Fatma Odaymat, ARIS Director and all of the participants sang the Chinese New Year song to ring in the year ahead.

This year is also the ‘Year of the Dog’ - which signifies honesty, loyalty, true friendships and partnerships. So, this new year, let’s be good friends and/or partners to one another, lets be loyal and honest in every thing we do, and never give up.
