Spread the Love, ARIS Cares

Feb 15, 2018

Spread the love everyone! It’s February and what better way to celebrate love and caring, than to give back to the community that you are a part of? ARIS Cares is a project among students that enables and encourages them to take initiatives in sharing and caring for themselves and others in the community.

On 14th February, our IB 1 students came together and organized, as part of their CAS projects (Creativity, Action and Service), a Fundraiser to raise money for the ‘Float your Boat’ fundraising project under Environment 360 in Ghana. ‘Float your Boat’ is an exciting and innovative annual event that raises funds for environmental education for children, across rural and urban areas.

We forget how much fun can come out of a good cause. Students bought coupons for 10 GHC to come to school in either Red, Pink or White. They seized the opportunity to look fabulous! Like any other 14th of February, there were Red Roses and Candy being sold and gifted to people for 2 GHC, which also was a great way of raising funds.

But, the fun did not end there. The IB 1 Students really put the Fun in the FUNdraiser when they held an assembly engaging the whole Secondary student body in a Quiz, Song performance and a 3-round Dance Competition. The Quiz was basic questions about the meaning of Valentines Day, where the idea originated, why it was celebrated on the 14th of February and more which students eagerly raised their hands up to answer in the chance of receiving a little gift – be it a pen or a lollipop or any other memento. This was followed by an amazing vocal performance of ‘Flashlight’, by Sarah from Year 12.

The showstopper of the Assembly though was the Dance Competition. Any student could volunteer as only themselves or in a pair to compete in a Dance battle. Counting the 3 pairs on stage and the other 3 students who would dance themselves, 9 students competed for 3 rounds of the Dance Competition, which was entirely judged by the audience. With a very close Final round between Hadi and Stephen (both from Year 7), Stephen took the prize with his 1 Leg Footwork Move.

Altogether, a great event that engaged the entire Secondary school to come together, enjoy and raise money for a great cause. Sharing, truly, is Caring.
