3.14159 ARIS Celebrates Pi Day 2018

Mar 15, 2018

In the event that Pi Day, #MyFreedomDay and Stephen Hawking’s death was on the same day, that is March 14th, just as one of our graduating students’ said, it is no co-incidence. “As we thankfully live with free bodies, we must remember to free our minds” is what he said, and yesterday’s celebration was truly about celebrating ‘The Power of the Free Mind.’

The ARIS Eagles had a ball! The most awaited day of the year for many of these students is probably Pi Day, because of the highlight that is being able to ‘Pi’ their favorite teachers on their faces, and being ‘Pi’ed back as sweet revenge.

This year, to start off the Pi Day, the students started with a picture on the Football field, arranged to form the Pi symbol when a picture would be taken with a drone. This was led on to the annual activity different students volunteering themselves to get the circumference of their heads measured to see what falls closest to Pi 3.14. It was ultimately a win for our student speaker, Bashhar with the circumference of 3.11, to which his winning speech was “My mom always said, eat your spaghetti, it makes your head stronger”

Musical chairs is ironic that on Pi Day, students and teachers (at different rounds) were to go around in ‘Circles’ around the chairs, until the music would stop and they would scramble to get a seat. When the students were playing, Fadel, a student from Year 10 was the last sitting student on a Musical Chair. Similarly, when the teachers played Musical chairs, Madam Wonder (Spanish Department) won!

The Pi Quiz subsequently followed where each house – Red, Green, Blue and Yellow got 2 representatives to participate in the quiz that Mr. James (Math Department) conducted. Questions ranged from facts about Einstein to mathematical logical reasoning questions about 3.14, to trivia. Lots to learn from! For this, a huge Congratulations to the Yellow House for winning the House Quiz.

Then came the most awaited moments of ‘Pi’ing the teachers and vice versa, an ARIS Tradition. Students probably wait all year for this opportunity to pie their favorite teachers on their faces, and they bask in the glory of those few seconds. Last words from a teacher – “Revenge will be mine”, and that she got, when she pied her student back on her face.

Altogether a great day celebrating free and thinking minds by getting both teachers and students involved to have a fun-filled, stress relieving and yet
