PYP Parachute Play

Feb 18, 2019

Parachute Play has now been incorporated into the morning circle time of the PYP students. The Nursery students for their outdoor play stood in a circle, with the parachute in the middle and made it billow as the ball bounced around!

Why incorporate parachute play into the programme? Parachute games encourage cooperative and non-competitive play, reinforcing turn-taking and sharing behavioral attributes. While most gross motor activities for young children develop muscles in the lower body more than the upper torso, parachutes strengthen primarily shoulder, arm and hand muscles.

Moreover, when children work together and make the parachute billow, they also refine perceptual motor skills and develop a sense of rhythm. The prospects of parachute play activities are endless, in fact, languages can also be incorporated into this!
