Education for all? An MYP 5 Eagle's Personal Project

Mar 16, 2021

Man has evolved from having absolutely nothing to having close to everything. From tools made out of rocks to space crafts that land on the moon, the human species have advanced rapidly.

In order for all these advances to take place, man saw the need for education. Education is the force that drives these changes, it has made the impossible possible, and it has challenged the minds of human beings. However, it is sad to say that in our part of the world, Africa, the rate of illiteracy is high, and has contributed to the low rate of development.

Inspired by this information, MYP 5 Year 11 Eagle, Abir Karroum has decided to raise awareness and some funds, towards making basic education accessible to children in Ghana.

"I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples". In her own small way and the power of social media, Abir's initiative "Right to Education" focuses on enlightening everyone on the importance of education especially at the basic level.

Did you know that 1 out of 5 children do not have access to education? How about the fact that in 2014 about 260 million children were out of school! Imagine what the numbers are currently, with the onset of the global pandemic.
Reasons for these high numbers of children who have no access to education, especially in our region, includes Child Labour, Child marriages and Environmental and Political changes. Abir's initiative is geared towards the fight against illiteracy, which will go on to ensure that the future of Africa is bright.
